Caterpillars, Fire Safety, and such...

It has been a great week in Mrs. Woolard's class! Always full of adventures!

Here we are looking at chicken eggs. These are just plastic ones that show each day of development in the life of a chick.
Mrs. Keeney (a kindergarten teacher at DV and Harrison's mom) invited us to watch her "candle" chick eggs. She took 4 students at a time into a darkened room and shined a light on an egg. The kids were able to see the air sack that enables the chick to breathe, the actual chick, and the veins on the inside of the egg. It was truly amazing!

The kids had a wonderful time learning about fire safety. They participated in a "pretend" fire and practiced safety precautions. They learned about firemen equipment, the fire truck, and got to walk through the actual truck.

I regret that I didn't take any pictures of the baby caterpillars. They are HUGE compared to when they arrived.

We've already had a few go into their chrysalises and many are now hanging in the "j" shape. When we checked Ethan's this morning it was in its "j" shape, and then hours later, it was a chrysalis! By Monday, we should have lots of chrysalises. Exciting!

Here is our most recent class picture.
